FAQs

What size marquee do I need?

The size and shape of your marquee depends on the available space and the site, the type of event you are holding and the number of guests you plan to invite. We will help you determine the right size for you, please look at our ‘Capacity’ and ‘Ground Plans’ pages or call 01420 488477 for further information and advice.

How much will a marquee cost?

Once you have an idea of the date and location of your event and you can estimate the number of guests, please use our quick and easy online Quotation Form to obtain a provisional price quotation.

When do I need to start planning my event?

Depending on the size and nature of the event you are planning we work with clients from 1 week to 2 years in advance. Early planning ensures availability!

Site Visit?

We offer free of charge site visits with no obligation on your part, to inspect the proposed site and discuss your requirements in detail.

What is the difference between a Pole and Frame Marquee?

Frame marquees (also known as Clear Span Marquees) are completely freestanding and can be assembled on hard or soft ground – gravel, tarmac or even a tennis court. They have no side ropes or internal supports with adjustable bays to create virtually any width and length, a truly versatile space whose only restriction is your imagination. Our stunning, traditionally British made pole tents are best suited to grass and they require an extra 1.5 metres space around the outside for guy ropes.

Can I attach a marquee to an existing building?

Yes, we have a wide range of awnings and marquees that can easily be fitted to existing buildings to create an extra ‘room’ – be it a space for dining, drinking, dancing or even all 3. More information and pictures of previous marquees can be seen on our ‘Unusual Installations’ page under ‘Our Services’.

Can marquee walls be opened up in warm weather?

Yes, the walls of our marquees can be easily opened and secured – we can show you how to do this so you can even decide on the day whether you want them open or closed.

Will a marquee damage my lawn?

Grass may change colour slightly as it has been covered by matting or carpet but recovers very quickly. Our specialist team are highly experienced at assembling marquees in all types of locations and we are very careful to ensure that lawns and gardens are left in excellent condition. If the grass
is very wet or if the event is in winter we can advise on suitable flooring to avoid creating very wet areas where the footfall is high such as entrances, exits and walkways.

When do I need to cut the grass before you erect the marquee?

We would advise cutting the lawn as low as you can a couple of days before we are due to come and erect the marquee to enable the grass to dry out. This will minimise the risk of condensation and potential damage to the lawn.

When do you ‘put up’ and ‘take down’ the marquee?

This is dependant on the time of year and size of marquee required. However, we aim to provide you with at least 1 clear day with the marquee erected before your event. We would look to fit in with your arrangements for take down to minimise disruption around your event.

Do you need a heater?

We would suggest including a heater even in summer then deciding nearer the time when the weather forecast is (hopefully) more accurate. Our thermostatically controlled heaters are incredibly efficient and can keep a marquee beautifully warm even in the middle of a freezing winter. Alternatively, for high summer and heatwaves we have air conditioning units.

Will we need additional power?

We can install cabling to an on site power supply or we have generators if extra power is needed. We can advise on this over the phone or when we come out for a free site visit.

Are marquees suitable for winter events?

Yes, with appropriate planning – heating, flooring, linings – marquees can make the perfect winter venue for Christmas drinks, New Year, office and winter birthday parties. Please see our ‘Winter Marquees’ page under Our Services for more information and pictures of previous events.

Do you provide loos?

Yes, we can provide loos from our trusted local luxury loo supplier.

Where do the caterers go?

We have special catering tents that can attach discreetly to the main marquee.
